“I don’t know what lies ahead, but I am going.”
Too often we find ourselves in jobs, schools, and relationships where we are genuinely unhappy. We fail to walk away from these situations due to either fear of failure or fear of disappointment. We are afraid of what lies ahead and so we would rather stay stagnant and live in comfort. Or we choose the “comfortable road” so as to not disappoint our family and friends who have been cheering us along. Perpetuating this cycle of unhappiness may seem like a good idea in the the short term, as it allows us to avoid making tough decisions, but I would argue that taking the easy route is one of the biggest and costliest decisions we could make in life.
It is okay to be afraid of what lies ahead and the impact of your decisions, but it never okay to remain in an environment that leaves you dissatisfied and unable to thrive. If your current situation (whether it be your career, college major, or even a relationship) is not turning out how you anticipated, find your passion- that which will make you truly happy, and take your leap of faith. Do not listen to people who tell you that you are being irrational or are making a bad decision. These people are often times projecting their personal fears unto you. You have all the makings to be successful and the drive that will get you where you want to be. Fear and doubt are natural, but you should not let them prevent you from actualizing your potential. After all, if you are doing what makes you happy, you have no choice but to succeed.
Success should be accompanied by a bit of discomfort. Your path will not always be paved for you, and your journey to success will not always be a pleasant one. Don’t let this uncertainty stop you from making bold decisions. Life doesn’t come with instructions, so be bold in your pursuit of passion, follow your dreams, and make that jump, because you never know where you may land!
